Soul for Sale

It feels so damn good to get something new. Something that we’ve wanted, and finally we splurged and bought it. That rush is the most amazing experience. And while we should embrace it and experience it, wholly enjoy it, we need to remind ourselves (as I said before), new does become ordinary. And eventually it becomes old. If we don’t recognize this we begin to chase that dragon. And it’s one we can’t catch.

I’ve come to see that, as with everything, the rush of getting something you’ve wanted requires perspective. Because the high is so wildly intoxicating. Sometimes we don’t even realize that it’s wearing off and we’ve already set out to find that rush again. And this is how debt mounts and life begins to spiral. With perspective we can see that this is more than just wanting “stuff.” There is something we’re ignoring. A void deep inside that we’re trying to fill with physical things. Which is wholly impossible.

A void neglected always gets bigger. And so we must venture into The Darkness to figure out the void. The deeper we go the more sense life begins to make. We find things like contentment and appreciation. Life becomes steady. Not a series of highs and lows that cost us pieces of our souls.
